The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has admitted spreading fake news about the kidnapped students of Government Science School in Kankara, Katsina State
Penpushing reports that, Shehu in the wake of the kidnapped of the schoolboys came out to tell the world that ten students were abducted, information later discovered untrue, contrary to actual number of 300.
The President aide, later retracted his falsehood, having realized that he goofed by dishing out misinformation, and thereafter apologised for spreading fake news on the number of students that were kidnapped
Penpushing further reports that, as a way to pacify the world, Shehu took to his Twitter page to apologise for his action as purveyors of fake news, explaining that the communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know.
“I apologize for the incorrect communication citing that only 10 students were kidnapped at the science school, Kankara. This communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know. These numbers were seen to conflict with what was available at that time”, he said
“Please understand that this communication was in no way done to downplay the seriousness of the situation. Please accept my sincere apologies on this matter as we continue to move our great Nation Nigeria forward. Thank you’, he begged”
