Appeal court ruling: All progressives’ congress appoints ajimobi to replace oshiomhole as interim national chairman

The ruling All Progressives Congress has appointed former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi as the acting chairman of the party after the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the chairman.

Penpushing reports that, the party spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onilu made this known in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the decision was guided by advice from the legal department,in line with the provisions of section 14.2 of the party constitution, adding that Ajimobi will serve as interim leader

“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman,”  Issa-Onilu, said.

“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”, he explained

Penpushing further reports that, a three-member panel of the appeal court headed by Justice Mohammed Lamido  had earlier affirmed the suspension of Oshiomhole on Tuesday in Abuja, and equally dismissed Oshiomhole’s appeal for lacking in merit.

The panel accordingly affirmed the decision of an Abuja high court which had in early March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole as the party national chairman, while he was  earlier suspended by  the leadership of the Edo State Chapter of the party which was believed as part of his battle with Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Penpushing also reports that,a Federal High Court earlier  ruled that Oshiomhole suspension was legal and ordered him to stop parading himself as All Progressives Congress(APC) national chairman.

The suspension of Oshiomhole was initially lifted after the appellate court granted a stay of execution of the high court’s order, however, on Tuesday the  appeal court , ruled that Oshiomhole’s suspension was valid.

Penpushing reports that, this latest development has become a new challenge in the crisis already with the party leadership and members in Edo State  as the party prepares for the governorship election, and it is also recalled that, earlier on Tuesday, Governor Godwin Obaseki announced his resignation from the party having being disqualified from contesting governorship primary under the platform.
