ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS PRESSURE GROUP DEMANDS SACK OF AMOSUN OVER ANTI-PARTY ACTIVITIES

Penpushing also recalled that, Governor Ibikunle Amosun had been at a loggerhead with the national leadership of his party, All Progressives Congress (APM) following his 28 failed attempt to secure ticket for his preferred candidate, Hon Adekunle Akinlade, and openly declared that, he would work against All Progressives Congress,(APC), during Governorship election, but team up with the opposition Allied Peoples Movement, (APM), candidate,  Adekunle Akinlade

The coordinator accompanied by other officials of the Network, in the same vein, posited that there was need to also declared the seat being occupied presently by Hon Adekunle Akinlade at the National Assembly, having moved from All Progressives Congress (APC) to Allied Peoples Movement,(APM), as the party Governorship Candidate in Ogun State.

Penpushing further reports that, the network explained that, this became necessary  to  declare the seat  vacant for a substitution election to be conducted immediately before the general election to fill the vacuum that will be created, arguing further  that for democracy to survive, things must be done in line with laid down principles and law guiding the system.

“It is our strong belief that for democracy to survive, things must be done in line with laid down laws and principles guiding the system. We are seriously concerned about the political situation in Ogun State branch of the All Progressives Congress, the untoward developments and its implications for the APC in Ogun State and Nationally now and in the future’.

“It is our strong belief that party politics and survival of democracy are interdependent and must be guided within the purview of constitutionalism and principles of democracy and morality’, the group emphasised.

“At this juncture, we cannot maintain criminal silence while allowing brigandage, indiscipline and outright abuse of the democratic space within the party and national polity by Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his lieutenants in this anti-party drive and general slap on our collective to go unchallenged,” he said.

“It is a serious infraction and insult on our sensibility for the incumbent Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to disregard democratic decisions of the APC in Ogun State and Nigeria to field Prince Dapo Abiodun as its standard bearer only for Governor Amosun to deviate from that line to pitch his tent with the candidate of another party, the APM Mr. Adekunle Akinlade who is a current serving member of the National Assembly and a decampee from the APC’

“It is absolutely laughable and against all known logic that Senator Ibikunle Amosun is holding on to the ticket of the APC to contest as Senator for Ogun Central Senatorial District while backing Hon. Akinlade from another political party to be Governor of the State during the same election tenure. Senator Amosun is biting the finger that fed him and engaging in a spoiler game to dwindle the fortune of the APC in Ogun State. This we frown at and we will do all within our principled, guided and determined capacity to resist.

“We as students of history are aware of the damaging result of such a wrong precedence and will such to eat deep into the fabrics of our party, erode party discipline and supremacy to encourage acts of brigandage and abuse of party democracy. We have waited patiently till this time believing that Senator Ibikunle Amosun will give reasoning preference over emotion and allow collective interest to prevail over his ego and personal ambition. Failure of this, we were left with no option at this critical time than to square up to this situation with a resolve to make party discipline prevail”

The body however questioned the activities of Senator Amosun in relation to playing the anti-party agenda, stating that the party gave him the platform to govern the state, and urging him to accept the defeat to the collective wish and interest of the people and party.

“If he so much have passion to promote his newly embraced political party and sees its candidate as the most politically potent to govern, why is he not running his senate ambition on the platform of that party? If Akinlade is no more a member of the APC, what is he still doing in the National Assembly having won the seat on the platform of APC?”

“Being conscious of the reality of difficulties involved in answering the above raised questions by Senator Amosun and his allies, we are calling on all stakeholders in the electioneering and electoral processes to rise to this occasion and take decisive actions to right this wrong trend if Senator Amosun refuse to change his course”

The youth body also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other financial watchdog agencies to bring Amosun to order, saying that the demands are enormous but it has been spelt out in the petition which has been sent to the state secretariat and INEC.

“As conscious politicians and people with unquestionable interest in securing total victory for the APC in the coming general elections across the country and very strong interest in swelling our party rack than depleting it, we call on Senator Ibikunle Amosun to retrace his steps, embrace the party decision, submit his interest to the principle of party supremacy by switching his support from that of the APM candidate to Mr Dapo Abiodun the standard flag bearer of the APC. It is not too late a decision to take.

“Failure to heed this honourable call immediately, while we do not intend that anyone explore this medium of our intervention as excuse to pursue their interest and walk away from the APC, we will equally not hesitate on the principle of discipline advise him to desist from his dual party identity by resigning his membership of the All Progressives Congress to embrace his new party and stop confusing the electorates further with his deception. Democracy is all about choice and the choice is his to make” He said.

The group body called on the Ogun State House of Assembly to rise up to this occasion and prevent illegal use of public fund to prosecute selfish agenda by taking a look into the books to determine the level of commitment of public fund to the APM project by Governor Ibikunle Amosun, adding that any form by the governor to borrow at this critical time should be made impossible.

Penpushing also reports that, in similar vein, the pressure group  asked the INEC to take a look into the source of income of APM as political party that suddenly rose from absolute obscurity into relative visibility after the involvement of  Governor Amosun.
