Adegoke’s killing: Femi Falana offers free legal service to bereaved family

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has offered to lead a legal team for the family of the murdered post graduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, at Hilton Hotels and Resort in the ancient town

Penpushing reports that, Falana confirmed this, adding that the representation will be done pro bono and that this followed earlier request by the bereaved poor family, stressing that the legal team will ensure that justice is done

The family in the request letter explained that they sought for appointment of Falana as their counsel because of the confidence and his expertise and professionalism expressing optimism that they will get justice

“We the family of Moses Adegoke have decided to appoint you as our family lawyer, to demand justice for our late son Adegoke, Timothy Oluwadamilare who was murdered at Hilton Honour Hotel and Resorts, Ile Ife.We have full confidence in your expertise and professionalism and hope to get justice on the case. Thank you for your great concern and sympathy”, the family wrote

Penpushing further reports that, the renowned legal practitioner upon his acceptance of the family’s request, had written the Inspector General of Police on February 4, 2022, requesting that the suspect be charged in Osun State, where the incident happened.

“As all the aforesaid criminal offences were said to have been committed at Ile-Ife you will agree with us that the suspects ought to have been charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in Osun State”, the letter reads

“Consequently, we are compelled to request you to use your good offices to ensure that the case file is handed over to the Attorney-General of Osun State to enable him to study same with a view to filing relevant charges against the suspects at the High Court of Osun State.”

Penpushing also reports that, Falana observed that the police had conducted a thorough and professional investigation, but posited that for now the family legal team wants to ensure that the case is instituted in the proper venue

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria argued that being a murder case, the matter had to be well prosecuted, adding that as soon as request for change of prosecution is granted, the team will consult Attorney General of Osun State

“Once our request for a change in venue has been granted, we shall consult with the Attorney-General of Osun State with a view to ensuring that the matter is properly prosecuted’, Falana emphasised.

Penpushing reports that, the owner of the hotel Adedoyin has been charged to High court in Abuja by the police alongside Adedeji Adesola,(23); Magdalene Chiefuna(24) Adeniyi Aderogba(37); Oluwale Lawrence(37); Oyetunde Kazeem(38); Adebayo Kunle(35); and others still at large over the alleged killing

The hotelier faces a charge of attempted felony, conspiracy, unlawful interference with Adegoke’s corpse, and tampering with the hotel’s receipt and CCTV camera with the intent to destroy evidence that would prove that Adegoke visited the hotel.

Penpushing further reports that, Adedoyin’s son (Raheem) who managed the hotel, but still on the run  was reported to have supervised the dumping of  Adegoke’s corpse far from the hotel, while the  body was discovered after some suspects, including workers at the hotel, were arrested by the police for questioning
