343 BAGS PHD, AS UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN CELEBRATES 71ST FOUNDERS DAY ANNIVERSARY

“A total of 343 candidates from various disciplines would be awarded the Doctor of Philosophy Degrees. The Faculty of Education leads the pack with a total of 70, followed by the Faculty of Science with 60 Ph.D graduands and the Faculty of Agriculture with 44.

Hear added, “Today, one candidate will receive the higher Doctorate Degree of Dr of Science. Dr. Dagogo Jack, a member of the MB,BS Graduating Class of 1978, is the fifth person ever to earn a D.Sc. from this University in our 71-years  history.

“Our much respected father, elder statesman and revered legal luminary, Aare Are Babalola, the Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti will be receiving a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters. Three of our former teachers made the prestigious list.

“This includes our 9th Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodele Falase who will be receiving a Honorary Fellowship; the foundation Dean of Technology, Prof. Fola Aboaba and the former Dean of the Social Sciences, Professor Emmanuel Edozien. Similarly, Prof. Alex Chika Eze, a Distinguished Alumnus who has assisted the University tremendously in capacity building of our staff will be receiving an Honorary Doctor of Science”.

The Vice Chancellor however called on President Mohammed Buhari to give  special attention to the institution in term of special reconstruction and rehabilitation, funds as well as increased allocation spread over a period of say 10 years for the University to favourably compete with top institutions not only in Africa but all over the world”.

Penpushing further reports that, the Chancellor of the institution, who is also the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, while appreciating the efforts of the Federal Government in its policy direction of taking the nation’s aspirations to the next level, restated the commitment of the university to continuing supporting the Federal Government in its advocacy for peace and stability in all the nooks and crannies of the country, fight corruption at all levels , achievements of the policy on food security and attainment of the diversification of the economy.

The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde in his remarks noted that the government and people of the State are proud to be associated with the University in several ways, adding that the state shall always tap into the deep well of knowledge and experience that University of Ibadan has.

“It is a living testimony to the practical reality of the appellation of our State, the Pacesetter State. It is also making us proud for consistently reeling out First Class products who have continued to define the essence of humanity in many disciplines.We are laying foundation that will lead to the emergence of a virile economy, which will demand inputs from your various skills’.

Penpushing also reports that, Makinde pointed out that people of Oyo State and the University of Ibadan who are resident in the State should have their tax domiciled where the resident so as to uplift the standard of social service the State.

The Governor, congratulated all the graduants who have just bagged their Doctorate Degrees, saying that is a no mean achievements and the reward for their hard work, perseverance and diligence callIing on them to justify being found worthy in character and learning to earn the degrees in all ramifications and at all times, adding that the only way to do this is by staying back in Nigeria so together ‘we can build a great country’.

Meanwhile. dignitaries at the event include the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akaamu Adetunji, Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aranmolaran and Vice Chancellors of University among others
